Sharing several stories about women that I’ve been blessed to tell during the early part of 2023. These articles are part of my commitment to uplift and empower women. It’s always great when you’re able to shine a spotlight on women and showcase their journey, passion, and leadership. Hope you will enjoy these articles.

Calling MEAC Bowling Championship Full-Circle for Tiffany Greene

Tiffany Greene continues to accomplish her goals. The veteran ESPN play-by-play announcer and Florida A&M graduate wanted to announce the Cricket Celebration Bowl. Check. Greene also aspired to announce the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship. As of 2023… check.

Sha’Quira Martin and Nicole Hutchison are faces of the MEAC.

Hutchison, Martin Make Mark on MEAC, Sports Broadcasting

NORFOLK, Va. — Nicole Hutchison and Sha’Quira Martin are bundles of positive and radiant energy lighting up computer screens and television sets from coast to coast. It seems only fitting that in a conference in which five of the eight athletic directors are women and many of the conference office’s senior staff are women, Hutchison and Martin are the faces of the MEAC Digital Network. Hutchison and Martin are phenomenal role models making a difference with their talent, tenacity and resiliency.

Hardwood Masterpiece: Howard WBB’s Destiny Howell

Taking your eyes off Destiny Howell is a mistake. You see, the moment you look elsewhere, Howell will do something you’d never seen before or would never see again, creating hardwood masterpieces each time she competes. The gifted Howard University junior guard and sport management major enjoys the pleasure of playing the game she loves passionately and purposefully. She roars to the basket with a smooth rush of power and soars above defenders with athletic ferocity while dissecting opponents with clinical precision.

Time, Memories Aplenty as Rodriguez Enters MEAC Hall of Fame

One of the greatest gifts on this planet is time. It’s ironic because time ruthlessly marches forward, never pausing. Yet, it represents different things to everybody. For some, it’s a countdown. For others, it’s a deadline. For many, it’s one step closer to the weekend or the conclusion of the workday. Time marks the passage of iconic moments that become forever ingrained in the minds of many, like lifting national championship trophies. With each passing year and as the sport of bowling grows, time brings memories into sharper focus for Maria Rodriguez, who cherished her experience at Maryland Eastern Shore.

Angel Reese (center smiling) during the NCAA Women’s Final Four

Angel Reese’s Faith Fueled LSU’s Memorable Run To The Final Four

DALLAS — Faith and hard work fueled Angel Reese’s sterling season.

“I pray before every game,” said Reese, a sophomore forward for the LSU women’s basketball team. “So that’s my time to get my prayer together by myself. I pray in the morning when I wake up. I pray — I read my devotional every morning, then I pray with Auntie Chanté on staff, then I pray by myself, and then I get one more going up before the game. This year has been something that I’ve been a lot closer to God, and I think that’s why I’m here right now in this position. A year ago — it’s crazy how my life changed in a year.”

Making Strides: Howard WTRACKs Jessica Wright

WASHINGTON Jessica Wright cherishes each opportunity she gets to compete representing Howard University. The senior standout has competed on track and field’s biggest stage. While that’s a thrill and an opportunity she doesn’t take for granted, Wright’s excitement comes from wearing the sacred name of Howard across her chest each time she steps onto the hallowed burgundy oval.

“So far, I am most proud of competing in the semifinals of the USA trials,” Wright said. “To end my season on the biggest stage in the U.S., other than world championships, was an amazing feeling. This journey has been so special to me because I can see how far I’ve come and how God and my work ethic have placed me in the position I am in today. Representing an HBCU on a national level is another accomplishment.”

Women’s MEAC Title a Long Time Coming for Vickers, Spartans

NORFOLK, Va. — Larry Vickers watched the marvelous mayhem unfold before him with his arms crossed. His jubilant Norfolk State women’s basketball players celebrated their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament championship since 2002 following a hard-earned 56–52 triumph over Howard at the Norfolk Scope last Saturday by snapping selfies, making snow confetti angels, posting to their social media feeds, hugging and dancing.

“This part is for them,” Vickers said while surrounded by television cameras. “I am so happy for them and this university. Being an alum and knowing where our program used to be is special. This moment speaks to the work that staff, players, and everybody associated with our program have put in over the last seven years. We worked hard, and this victory was earned.”
